Yes, the session management completely changed with wechall4.
It only works via cookies now.

But it does in fact work, and it works hassle free.

This is a bit off topic but hat-tip to Gizmore et al for the implementation. Some sites are a real pain to connect to with anything but an ordinary browser. Getting, say, a Perl or Python script to connect can be frustrating on those sites, but not on WeChall, at least in my experience.
