Happy 11th Birthday

I am happy to announce!

WeChall turned 11 years today and we have served slightly more than 10^9 pages by now.
I would love to do what Kender has done once; give some special statistics, but i am busy and lazy.
Instead this post is about what happened the last year or two and give a statement on where we want wechall will go to.

I especially want to thank dloser for his sysadmin efforts the past years. This is invaluable, and without him wechall might have died. Thank you my friend!


What happened?

Meanwhile we got 6 admins on wechall, with different permissions and objectives.

- gizmore (writing useless posts, never answers mails and makes dloser go crazy)
- dloser (the real admin meanwhile, with access to everything. Answers most support questions and keeps the servers responding; fixed lots of code)
- Kender (Still admin with nothing todo, co-founder of wechall.net)
- tehron (Punk who is keeping the Horus IRC-Bot healthy, cares about linked sites and answers support questions)
- space (challenge master, keeping the challs working, fixes and enhances GWF3 framework)
- livinskull (is root on warchall but has nothing todo atm)

What happened else?

Donations turned out to be exactly paying enough for the server costs.
One user even sends €5 every month in a recurrent task.

What else?

WeChall got under DDoS and DoS attacks a bit. dloser managed to cope with these.
Some attacks turned out to be yandex or google bots.
Fun Fact: google sends 5 requests every 3 seconds, yandex does not care and DoS you.

Else?

I played with multi server deployment, but it's difficult. I tried master-master replication with mysql and it turned out horrible.
Luckily we don't need that

Where is wechall going the next year?

gizmore: "WeChall should stay the same. Maybe i add another chall. It would be great if we sort out site statuses and scoring and fix stuff. Also nice would be a merchandise section with tshirts, cups and eggboilers"
